Terms of Service

Welcome to Koodinorppa. Please read these Terms carefully before using the app. By using Koodinorppa you accept these Terms. They form an agreement between you and Koodisto Digital (Business ID 2829298-1).

1. Description of the app

Koodinorppa is an iOS app that teaches programming (Swift, JavaScript, Python, HTML/CSS, Vibe Coding) through interactive lessons. The app is free and contains no ads or in-app purchases.

2. License to use

Koodisto Digital grants you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to use Koodinorppa on your own Apple device. You may not:

The app requires Sign in with Apple. By signing in you agree to provide accurate information (e.g. display name). You are responsible for the security of your Apple ID. If you suspect unauthorized use, notify us at [email protected] immediately.

4. Use by children

Koodinorppa is designed for ages 4 and up (App Store age rating 4+). Children under 13 may use the app only with the consent of a parent or guardian. We recommend using Family Sharing so a parent can manage screen time via Screen Time.

5. Community conduct

Leagues, leaderboards, and Game Center friends are part of the experience. User-facing content (e.g. display name) may not contain:

Apple's Game Center rules also apply: apple.com/legal/game-center. Violations may result in your display name being made anonymous or your account being suspended.

6. Content and intellectual property

All Koodinorppa content — lesson text, mascot artwork, code samples, sound effects — is owned by or licensed to Koodisto Digital and is protected by copyright, trademark, and other laws. Individual code samples may be used for your own learning and shared on social media, but copying or republishing content for commercial purposes is prohibited.

7. User feedback

If you send us feedback, suggestions, or bug reports about the app, you grant us the right to use them without compensation to improve the app.

8. Service availability

We aim to keep the app available 24/7, but we do not guarantee uninterrupted operation. iCloud-based features (sync, leaderboard) depend on the state of Apple's services — you can check status at apple.com/support/systemstatus.

11. Disclaimer and limitation of liability

This section governs international use and contains essential disclaimers and limitations of liability. Please read it carefully.

11.1 Disclaimer of Warranties

The Koodinorppa app is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied. We do not warrant that the app will be error-free, uninterrupted, secure, or fit for any particular purpose. You use the app at your own risk.

11.2 Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, Koodisto Digital shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, consequential, punitive, or special damages — including loss of revenue, loss of data, business interruption, or loss of goodwill — even if advised of the possibility of such damages. Our total aggregate liability to you is limited to the amount you have paid for the app (the app is free, so up to €0).

11.3 Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Koodisto Digital from any third-party claims, demands, and costs (including reasonable attorneys' fees) arising out of (a) your use or misuse of the app, (b) your violation of these Terms, or (c) your violation of any applicable law or third-party right.

11.4 Educational Content Disclaimer

The lesson content in Koodinorppa is provided for informational and educational purposes only. We do not guarantee that using the app will lead to employment, professional qualification, certification, or financial gain. You are solely responsible for your own decisions and actions based on what you learn in the app. Koodinorppa is not a substitute for formal education or professional advice.

11.5 Children's Privacy

Koodinorppa is suitable for users of all ages (App Store age rating 4+), but the app only collects data from the holder of the Apple ID. Acquiring an Apple ID independently requires a minimum age of 13 (United States, COPPA), 16 (EU, GDPR Art. 8), or a Family Sharing child account configured by a parent. The parent or guardian is responsible for supervising the child's use of the app through iOS Screen Time and Family Sharing controls. We comply with section 1.3 (Kids Category) of Apple's App Store Review Guidelines and with the UK Age Appropriate Design Code.

11.6 Force Majeure

We are not liable for any interruption, delay, or deficient performance of the service caused by events beyond our reasonable control — including natural disasters, war, terrorism, pandemic, strikes, government actions, internet outages, power failures, or third-party service disruptions (such as Apple iCloud, CloudKit, Game Center, App Store).

11.7 Modifications to Terms

We reserve the right to modify these Terms at any time. We will notify you of material changes in the app or by email at least 14 days before they take effect. Continued use of the app after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the new Terms. If you do not accept the changes, please stop using the app and delete your account.

11.8 International Data Transfer

Koodinorppa uses Apple's iCloud (CloudKit) service, the servers for which are located in the United States, Europe, and Asia. By using the app you agree that your data may be transferred to and stored on those servers. Apple acts as a data processor and adheres to the EU Standard Contractual Clauses (SCC) and the EU–US Data Privacy Framework (DPF) for data transferred to the United States.

11.9 Third-Party Services Disclaimer (Apple, Game Center, CloudKit)

Apple Inc. and its services (App Store, iCloud, CloudKit, Game Center, Sign in with Apple) are third parties and are not part of the service provided by Koodisto Digital. Apple is not responsible for the operation, content, or any damages arising from Koodinorppa. Apple's own terms and privacy policies apply to those services (apple.com/legal). Apple may suspend or discontinue Game Center and CloudKit at any time, for which Koodisto Digital is not responsible.

11.10 Mandatory Consumer Rights

These Terms do not limit the mandatory rights of consumers under EU consumer protection directives, the Finnish Consumer Protection Act, or equivalent national legislation in your country of residence. If any provision of these Terms conflicts with such mandatory law, that provision is invalid to that extent, but the remaining Terms continue to apply.

11.11 Governing Law and Jurisdiction

These Terms are governed by the laws of Finland, excluding its conflict-of-laws rules. Any disputes arising out of the interpretation of these Terms or use of the app shall be resolved primarily in the District Court of Helsinki. Consumers resident in the EU/EEA may, where mandatory law requires, also bring an action in the courts of their country of residence.

11.12 Dispute Resolution

Before filing a legal claim, you agree to attempt to resolve the dispute amicably for at least 30 days by sending notice by email to [email protected]. If no amicable resolution is reached within that period, the dispute shall be settled by a competent court as set out in section 11.11. Consumers may additionally use the Finnish Consumer Disputes Board (kuluttajariita.fi) or the EU Online Dispute Resolution platform (ec.europa.eu/consumers/odr).

11.13 Independence and Trademarks

Koodisto Digital is an independent creator. It has no cooperation agreement, partnership, sponsorship, or other comparable business relationship with WWF Finland, WWF International, the Saimaa Ringed Seal Researchers (a Finnish research collective), Metsähallitus (Finland's state forestry and wildlife agency), Apple Inc., or any other external party mentioned in the app, on the website, or in marketing materials. The "Koodinorppa" Saimaa ringed seal mascot is Koodisto Digital's own creation and should not be confused with the official activities of any of the above. Official conservation work for the Saimaa ringed seal — including fishing restrictions, net bans, and population research — is the responsibility of the Finnish state and the organizations mentioned above, not of Koodisto Digital.

Trademarks, service marks, and company names mentioned in the app, on the website, and in marketing materials (including but not limited to Apple, App Store, iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, iCloud, Game Center, Sign in with Apple, Swift, Python, JavaScript, HTML, CSS, Discord, Spotify, Figma, Instagram, and WWF) are the registered trademarks or service marks of their respective owners. They are referenced only to describe the app's content, the technology used, or example use cases, and any such reference does not imply endorsement, sponsorship, or recommendation by those parties.

12. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms. We will notify users of material changes in the app or by email at least 30 days before they take effect. Continued use of the app after the update constitutes acceptance of the new Terms.
